The evaluation of the safety of existing structures plays a fundamental role in a scenario of infrastructure characterized by the end of the project life, often with ongoing degradation processes, increasing traffic loads, unexpected effects due to accidental actions or climate change, and the consequent need to prepare structural adaptation interventions.
The contribution outlines the vision and approach developed in the currently ongoing H2020 CSA IM-SAFE project, of which Sacertis Ingegneria S.r.l. is a partner, with the aim of drafting the mandate for CEN for a further modification of the existing Eurocodes that allows a safety assessment based on monitoring, inspections, and testing, and that supports optimized maintenance strategies, oriented towards increasingly preventive and predictive approaches.
